Getting settled

What a welcome! Nobody warned us about the severity of how bad it is to find a new apartment in NYC. They did mention it will not be easy but we never thought to expect for the worst.

I guessed we put ourselves in the spot by deciding not to get an agent initially. We started by walking around the neighborhood we liked. Started calling numbers and asking for any vacancies.

Then we hit a block, they started asking for annual income salary report, recent W2, and annual income tax return. It was tough because I was not into the workforce yet and the apartment we liked was supposedly out of our current salary range. We understood but we offered for bigger advance monthly rent pay. They said they are not after our money and prefer monthly salary report.

I feel like we were buying a house!!!

Eventually, we found a way to get the place we liked. Family and friends helped me secure the place we have now.

Quite expensive compared to our previous suburban unit. Quite old. Quite unique in its location. But it is a place we now call home.
